I was wondering if there was any specific book or video that anyone here checked out that hepled immensely in their own sex life, alone or with a partner? It could be Tristan's or an instructional guide or even just erotic literature, but I was curious to know what has made an impact on fellow members here... :)

That was video, if I rememeber correctly. Back in mid-90's, my roommate's girlfriend rented it since she was looking to bring some erotica into their relationship. And the three of us ended up watching it together, oddly enough! :)

ummm, actually, the video was based on the book...according to the jacket of my copy:
"The work of a pseudonymous author using the name Pauline Reage, Story of O first appeared in France in 1954 and in the United States in 1965"
for some reason, the book is has been connected with the Marquis de Sade, who wrote Justine and Juliette, both of which delve WAY farther into S&M than 'O' (hence the word 'sadism')

That is all fascinating info. I had no idea where the word Sadism came from. Thanks NYDEVIANT!
I just heard that porn star Carmen Luvana will be starring in the porn version of the Story of O - seems like an odd choice for the part, so I hope it comes out some what decent...
As far as books go I love Tristan's True Lust and I also really liked The Ethical Slut (though perhaps slight out-dated now). As far as sex ed Tristan's Anal Guide is a must and so are the rest in the same series by Violet Blue.

First film that changed my sexlife before I even had any was Yentl (except for the singing), but I immediatly felt that it was okay to be butch, to wear men's clothes and sacrifice my failed career as a teenage girly cheerleader to spend warm summer days in libraries. I spend endless nights fantasising about being Yentl and running away with Amy Irving.
First book was 1984 by George Orwell. I chose Julia to be my character to identify with, because her charcter stands for free sexuality and that the private is fucking political. I even wrote a secret diary about my sex fantasies that I adressed to "Dear Julia...". I really chuckled when years later I read Madonna's book "Sex" in which Madonna writes letters adressed to "Dear Dita..."

well, the first book that helped me realize that sex is something that alot of people demonize, and that it was okay to have turn ons that some people would find "perverse" was
Come Hither: a guide to kinky sex by Dr. Gloria Brame, she's otherwise known as "Midori" in some of the S&M scenes I think.
The book helped me to know that there wasn't anything wrong with me for wanting certain things, sexually.
her book actually led me to get a job at an S&M club, as a bouncer. but still a cool book all arround.

Definitely the series of books of womens' fantasies by Nancy Friday (My Secret Gardsn, Forbidden Flowers, and Women On Top).
Before reading those, I had no idea that women had such rich and creative fantasy lives - much more so than most men, I think. It was definitely an eye-opener.

There was a how-to article on the G-Spot in ON OUR BACKS magazine in the early nineties that eventually caused the paint to peel on our bedroom wall.
Of course, now there is similar info available countless places on the web, but that little three page magazine article will always have a special spot in my lower chakra.

Thanks for bringing the thread back and for sharing! I wonder if that article was ever posted online...

There were so many books that helped. When I was quite young, I found a couple of books that my dad had hidden and read them over and over. Just porn, but they helped with questions I had at the time. The Story of O and Nancy Friday's books, along with the Joy of Sex were very helpful also. At 62, I still read and watch to learn and keep up with all that is happening. Never say die!!! lol
