not sure of the exact name (i'm at work right now) but I know that sony makes it and it's some kind of laser guided thing, i bought it for a handicam that I used to own.

Most transmitters I've seen that attach to camcorders are bulky and require their own battery packs or wall transformers. You wouldn't want to handle all that in bed...

But maybe a little wireless color surveillance camera would work, something like the Lorex SG8840? This camera is very tiny without the stand (3.5 x 1.3 x 1.3") and runs on a rechargeable lithium ion battery that lasts 5 hours (longer than I could...). This camera even includes its own built-in infrared illumination for night vision (i.e. you'd still get a picture even with the room totally dark). The tiny size and weight of the camera could be handy for getting into tight areas...

Keep in mind when going wireless that there's a possibility of your transmission being received by a neighbor's video baby monitor or similar video extender system...
